It’s Wednesday. The middle of the week. And if you’re like me, you’re feeling a little bit, shall we say, swamped. Yesterday, in particular, was especially overwhelming, and I was in danger of not being my usual, upbeat self. I just started grad school, and feelings of inadequacy and “OMG I CAN’T DO THIS!!!!” started to rear up.

When I woke up this morning feeling very similar, I realized something needed to change. Stat. Straightaway. Without further ado. And that something that needed to change is definitely my outlook. Therefore, it’s time to take the advice of Johnny Mercer and “Accentuate the Positive.” If you need a dose of optimism, look no further.

 

 

You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between

You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium’s
Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate my last remark
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they do just when everything looked so dark?
You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between
