Anne of Green Gables

Do you ever find yourself wishing you could jump into the pages of your favorite book and become one of the characters in it? Whenever I read the “Anne of Green Gables” series I feel that way. I actually wish I could jump in and be Anne herself. L.M Montgomery writes in in such sweet and honest way. She has created some of the most beautiful sentences I have ever read; sentences that string together like perfect pearls on a necklace to form the loveliest stories.

Anne Shirley is my heroine. She is such a strong and winsome character; one that I aspire to be like. She is imaginative, quirky, impetuous and full of dreams.

Anne has gumption: “Anyone who has gumption knows what it is, and anyone who hasn’t can never know what it is. So there is no need of defining it.”

She sees the beauty in everything: “I’d like to add some beauty to life,” said Anne dreamily. “I don’t exactly want to make people KNOW more… though I know that IS the noblest ambition… but I’d love to make them have a pleasanter time because of me… to have some little joy or happy thought that would never have existed if I hadn’t been born.”

She and I share the same sentiment on trees: “I couldn’t live where there were no trees–something vital in me would starve.”

Of course she can be quite dramatic (something I know nothing about…), but it’s always done with such style: “My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes.”

I absolutely adore her outlook on love: “Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music; perhaps…perhaps…love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.”

And in case today doesn’t go as planned: “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet.”

I received this lovely, leather-bound, gold-tipped set from my mother for my birthday one year. It is one of my most beloved possessions.

Have a lovely today AND a lovely tomorrow, friends.
